The Colorado AFL-CIO has launched a PR blitz to promote the “Keep Jobs in Colorado Act,” creating a Harlem Shake-style video and hosting a news conference at 1 p.m. today.
House Bill 1292, according to Democrats, is aimed at encouraging Colorado’s local economic growth and keeping taxpayer dollars in state. The measure, by Reps. Pete Lee of Colorado Springs, and Dan Pabon of Denver, will be heard at 1:30 p.m. today by the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee.
The news conference at 1 p.m. today in the Capitol’s west foyer includes Howard Arnold, a pipe fitter, and Matt Valdez, who lost his job at a large telecommunications company to outsourcing.
“The ‘Keep Jobs in Colorado Act’ creates opportunities for working families across the state,” said Mike Cerbo, executive director of the Colorado AFL-CIO. “Encouraging state bid preferences, limiting outsourcing and simplifying the 80 percent hiring rule enforcement will only serve to strengthen our state economy and keep jobs growing.”
